THE DEPARTMENT OF DESIGN IS THOROUGHLY DEDICATED TO EDUCATION IN VISUAL COMMUNICATION AND PRODUCT DESIGN.
The objective of the Undergraduate (three-Year) Program in Design and Visual Communications is to have students develop specific skills in two practical fields: one being graphic design and its applications – advertising communication, brand design, coordinated image, editorial design, illustration, animation, as well as interactive and multimedia communicative systems backed up by new technology such as digital products and websites – the other, product design and its most recent variations (interior design, exhibition design).
The key for anyone wishing to embark on the road of communicative output production and industrial products is the combination of business with creative artistic expression.
COURSE PHILOSOPHY
DESIGNER AS INTEGRATOR OF SKILLS
The Italian translation of “design” is “progetto”. Design, however, does not only address the product itself but also the communication campaign of the product itself and/ or the service activities that add value to it on the market. Abadir Academy offers a study path that aims to provide the foundation for working in the world of design, helping young designers grow into multiform figures able to combine the product with research, innovation, functionality, the social value and cultural meaning of goods and services distributed in the market.
SCHOOL AS LABORATORY
The method used for the training of young designers is that of problem solving through prototyping, experimentation of materials and technological processes, an approach typical of project planning and learning by doing. Students receive myriad theoretical input that will guide them throughout the design laboratories. There are mainly two work phases throughout the three-year course: individual, aimed at developing personal skills, and group, aimed at learning how to manage complex collaborative dynamics. Finding one’s specific talent and understanding one’s objectives are both crucial milestones in the learning process.
PROFESSIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
The Department provides training to product designers who also have skills in visual communication. School graduates will carry out professional activities in the various public and private sectors of product design. Our approach to design will therefore be geared to newly configured and highly flexible professional opportunities within the various applications that target organizations, museums, from small and medium-sized businesses to big industries. Targeted training will enable students to accomplish their goals in a variety of fields: from advertising to organization of space as a means of communication, from setting to exhibit, from the site specific design to the area at large that is linked to the communication of the endeavor.
DIPLOMA
At the end of the undergraduate program, students obtain a Level I Academic Diploma, legally recognized by the MIUR (Ministry of Education, University and Research), equivalent to a First Level degree. The degree grants access to second cycle courses, i.e. the Second Level Academic Diploma, the Master’s degree and the Level I Specialization degree.
The specific educational goal is to train designers of high professional quality. Courses ensure the acquisition of tools, knowledge, skills and continual references to formal and technological research with the local sector of industrial production.
